A report by the Arctic Council draws on new evidence to conclude that the Arctic warmed faster between 2011 and 2015 than any time on record, with glaciers and sea ice melting more quickly than anticipated. It has become one of many recent studies showing worse conditions and higher sea rise than previously projected. South Florida’s location downstream in the ocean’s circulatory system puts it at particularly high risk, and local planners have focused on higher projections for sea level rise. The Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact includes both conservative and liberal estimates of sea level rise in its projections, which are updated every three to five years.
