The editorial board at the Sun Sentinel call on the federal administration to listen to South Florida’s local governments, business communities, U.S. representatives, and residents when considering the importance of the Paris climate agreement. The region is ground zero for sea level rise in the U.S., which is why Broward, Palm Beach, Miami-Dade, and Monroe Counties created the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact to coordinate responses. While South Florida will continue to respond locally to sea level rise regardless, the U.S.’s decision on the Paris climate agreement will have ramifications for the economy and national credibility.
