When it comes to sea level rise in the U.S., south Florida is at the forefront, both for the risks that it faces and for the adaptation strategies it is pursuing. Rapidly-rising water levels threaten infrastructure that residents depend on for their health and safety, from septic tanks and wells to drainage systems and seawalls. South Floridians are gearing up to adapt and build community resilience to problems ranging from drainage to beach erosion, and the Compact has been a major driver in helping local governments collect necessary data and coordinate their response.
