In order to protect the public from flooding, the city of Fort Lauderdale may raise stormwater fees. Under the new proposal—which would double the city’s total annual revenue from stormwater fees—the calculation of fees would change from the current formula to include considerations of the traffic generated by a property. This calculation would put the brunt of the costs of improved drainage—which keeps roads from flooding—on the properties that benefit most from these changes.
