Accepting the Challenge for Climate Action
November 9, 2017
After the U.S. pulled out of the Paris Climate Accord, nearly 2,600 cities, states, companies, and campuses pledged to take action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. This is part of a history of local action leading the way in the U.S. Nonprofits like the Institute for Sustainable Communities and local government coalitions like the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact are part of this movement of local, community-based action. Companies and institutions of higher education area also voluntarily cutting greenhouse gas emissions. This local leadership needs to be augmented and supported by national action, but leadership at every level sends a signal and makes a difference.
