Dan Kahan, who studies how social factors can influence people’s perceptions, speaks to Nature about the real-world consequences of group affinity and cognitive bias surrounding the 2016 U.S. election. He cites the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact as a good example of being able to break through biases. Despite the polarity about climate change in the region, there is active engagement to adapt and protect Southeast Florida through the Compact.
