Fort Lauderdale has increasingly suffered from flooding, leading to a proposal that would double what city property owners pay in stormwater fees. In the face of rising sea levels, the costs to improve road drainage and build higher sea walls ranges from $140-240 million. The rates may be determined using a new method that calculates how much a property owes based on how much traffic it generates, but local officials are considering other approaches.
