Compact Currents

Compact Currents is a quarterly newsletter from the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact highlighting the progress of the Compact, the counties, and municipalities in Southeast Florida.

Winter 2023

In this issue of the Compact Currents, Addressing (jn)equity in Southeast Florida with the Regional Energy Efficiency Action Plan. The newsletter also highlights what is new about the RCAP 3.0, Miami-Dade County releases Extreme Heat Action Plan, Three local government jurisdictions named as part of Carbon Disclosure Project’s “A-List,” Scoping begins for critical study to examine highly vulnerable areas of Central and Southern Florida Flood Control System and more.

Fall 2022

In this issue of the Compact Currents, Vice President Kamala Harris announces $50 million in funding for flood adaptation. Fall 2020

In this issue of the Compact Currents, the Urban Land Institute unveiled a year-long study that illustrates the shared interest for action by both public and private sectors in investing in proactive flood protection and climate adaptation measures. Summer 2020

In this issue of the Compact Currents, understanding, applying and considering the context of the third regional updated Unified Sea Level Rise Projection. The newsletter also highlights the opposition to reduce state control of net metering policies, the Compact released guidance to advance regional adoption of EV and EV infrastructure, Miami-Dade launches new resource to improve energy and water efficiency in buildings, the 12th Annual Climate Leadership Summit has been cancelled, and more. 

Kristin Jacobs Tribute

The Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact family lost one of our greatest friends and champions: The Honorable Kristin Jacobs, State Representative and former Broward County Commissioner. Her death was a huge loss not only to her family and friends, but also the people of our region and the entire state of Florida.

 

Spring 2020

In this issue of the Compact Currents, the Compact announced new resources released for the Compact’s Regional Climate Action Plan. The newsletter also highlights the second Broward Climate Youth Summit, the city of Miami commits to carbon neutrality by 2050, Palm Beach locals partner in a joint climate change vulnerability assessment, a proposed redesign of the Miami-Dade bus network to bolster transit use, and more. 

Winter 2019

In this issue of the Compact Currents, the Compact released the 3rd Regionally Unified Sea Level Rise Projection and the Compact makes strides toward expanding electric vehicles and more.

 

Summer 2019

In this issue of the Compact Currents, the Compact’s Economic Resilience Work Group undertook a regional analysis on climate adaptation. The newsletter also highlights South Miami’s commitment to 100 percent renewable energy, the Compact’s recent workshop on electric vehicles, Florida’s $75 million voluntary home buyout program, the second phase of Miami-Dade’s “City Water Resilience Approach,” Broward County’s flood map updates, and more. 

Spring 2019

In this issue of the Compact Currents, the Compact visits Tallahassee to brief lawmakers. The newsletter also highlights electric vehicle deployment in Miami-Dade, and Monroe advanced their road elevation project. Also, a friendly reminder that the 2019 summit is slated for December 3-5.

 

 

Winter 2018

In this issue of the Compact Currents, the Compact released its 10-year Regional Greenhouse Gas Inventory, which reviews community-wide emissions from 2005 to 2015 and summarizes overall emissions trends across the four counties. The newsletter also highlights resilience planning in each county, focused on addressing local vulnerabilities to sea level rise. It announced the 11th Annual Climate Leadership Summit dates and shared resources from the 10th Annual Summit.

Summer 2018

The Summer 2018 issue of the Compact Currents features highlights from our Regional Climate Action Plan Implementation Workshop on post-disaster redevelopment planning, resilient housing in Monroe County, a new 100RC initiative, an update on the Miami Beach’s water quality monitoring program, and a preview of the 10th Annual Climate Leadership Summit.

 

Spring 2018

The Spring 2018 issue of the Compact Currents features the Joint Statement on Collaboration for Regional Economic Resilience signed by all four counties and Southeast Florida’s economic development community at the 9th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit; a case study of the Miami Forever bond; partner updates, including the hiring of Palm Beach County’s first director of its Office of Resilience, the City of Miami’s efforts to bolster its stormwater infrastructure plan, and the hiring of new Compact staff; and an introduction to The Invading Sea.

Winter 2018

The Winter 2018 issue of the Compact Currents features some of the outcomes of the 9th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit, including the launch of the Regional Climate Action Plan (RCAP) 2.0; a new interactive shoreline resilience story map; partner updates, including Monroe County road elevation projects and Miami-Dade County community conversations on building efficiency; and upcoming events, including the 10th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit in Miami. 

Fall 2017

The Fall 2017 issue of the Compact Currents features the 9th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit, with its theme of The Business of Resilience; a case study of a partnership to increase urban tree canopy in the City of Delray Beach; partner updates, including the adoption of the Mayors’ Climate Action Pledge by the City of North Miami and the creation of a new micro-regional collaborative; and post-Irma reflections from Miami-Dade County and Monroe County.

Summer 2017

The Summer 2017 issue of the Compact Currents features the Regional Climate Action Plan (RCAP) 2.0 revision process and its progress to date; a King Tide Toolkit from the City of Fort Lauderdale; a case study of Rising Together, a faith-based organization collaborating with local communities on climate resilience; partner updates, including the adoption of the Mayors’ Climate Action Pledge by Highland Beach and Boca Raton; and an update on the 9th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit, which will focus on “The Business of Resilience.”

Spring 2017

The Spring 2017 issue of the Compact Currents features the Regional Climate Action Plan (RCAP) 2.0 revision process and its progress to date; the RCAP 2016 Municipal Implementation Survey Report;  partner updates, including the adoption of the Mayors’ Climate Action Pledge by the Cities of Miami and Boca Raton; and an update on the 9th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit, which will focus on “The Business of Resilience.”

Winter 2017

The Winter 2017 issue of the Compact Currents featured the Regional Climate Action Plan 2.0 revision process for the year, the latest report on sea level rise projections integrated into local plans, a webinar recording on how to effectively communicate sea level rise, case studies and an update on Resilience Dialogues. It also announced the 9th Annual Southeast Florida Regional Climate Leadership Summit to be held on December 14-15, 2017 in Broward County.

Fall 2016

The Fall 2016 issue of the Compact Currents features November’s Resilient Redesign event, partner updates, case studies and an announcement of the Better Communities Alliance partnership.

Summer 2016

The Summer 2016 issue of the Compact Currents featured registration for the 2016 Climate Leadership Summit, climate awareness spreading through the region, Broward County’s approval of Property Assessed Clean Energy program and new RCAP resources.
