Broward County Resilience Officer and Compact Staff Steering Committee Member Jennifer Jurado discusses the past, present, and future of sea level rise adaptation and planning in Southeast Florida. With the creation of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact in 2009, planning has advanced. At the same time, so has flooding, making it increasingly difficult to safely and efficiently move water. To keep up with these changes, the counties must couple sound adaptation with local and regional investments while they work to slow the rate of sea level rise by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
